Elmer the famous patchwork elephant, was first published in 1968. The colourful elephant gained so much publicity, he was re-illustrated and republished in 1989 (the year I was born).
David McKee was inspired to create Elmer based on the work of a Swiss artist named Paul Klee. This imaginative idea blossomed so much that the story of Elmer has touched many generations.
Stores worldwide have copies of the original tale, as well as special editions. Spend your day celebrating with these printable activities, reading a version of the book or watching the story online!
